Weekend Wheels Student Backpack Food Assistance Program

Many school children receive free or reduced meals during the school week. This can leave those same children lacking for food on the weekends. The Windsor Hunger Action Team created the Weekend Wheels program to help fill that gap. This program distributes supplementary food to Windsor school children every week during the school year. Children from eligible families will receive home delivery of a grocery bag filled with a variety of foods each Thursday or Friday to help thru the weekend. This program is currently being offered to families whose children are enrolled at Clover Street School, John F. Kennedy School, Oliver Ellsworth School, Poquonock School, Sage Park Middle School, and Windsor High School. Homeschooled households can also participate.

The need for donations for this program is great. Weekend Wheels is funded solely through the donations and support of local businesses, civic organizations, religious institutions, concerned residents and grant awards. If you are interested in donating to the program, please contact the program coordinator, Susan Nunes at 860-285-1839. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated.
